Beware, residents of Walton, litter is coming to a street near you.
We moved to Clacton two years ago and regularly walk to the Tesco store at Brook Retail Park.
Last spring, as we walked from London Road into Britton Way, we were surprised at the amount of litter lying around next to Tesco’s “goods in” gate and in among the shrubbery as you approach the store.
The whole area looked filthy.
We mentioned this to customer services and have brought it to their attention on occasions since, and we were assured something would be done.
Well, last summer and autumn came and went and Christmas passed with no clean-up in sight.
I e-mailed Tendring Council and, after various attempts, a council officer managed to meet the store manager, who apologised and promised to clean the area.
As no progress was being made, I contacted Tesco’s chief executive on January 18 and a person responded on his behalf, apologising with assurances the store manager would definitely tackle the problem. I have since contacted the head office and been met with the usual empty promises.
I walked to the store this week, and still no change!
If the proposed store goes ahead, Walton residents also have to look forward to all the little flags flying, namely Tesco carrier bags snagged on the hedgerows fluttering away until they disintegrate.
