REDUNDANCY payouts at Essex County Council could top £20m.
The council has announced there will be 450 compulsory redundancies in 2011/12 among the 1,200 posts which are going.
Many of the posts will stop once fixed contracts end and through natural waste but the council has agreed to put an extra £6.5m in the redundancy reserve for each of the next three years and expects to need all of it.
