In an article in a national broadsheet newspaper last week, we are led to conclude that David Cameron’s promotion of the Big Society is as a result of playing club cricket and understanding the essential help provided unselfishly each week by a host of volunteers.
I am sure Mr Cameron will be interested to learn that, here in north-east Essex, his Conservative colleagues in charge of Tendring Council are promoting his Big Society message by increasing fees for cricket pitch hire by 44 per cent.
