When work started on the new Firstsite arts centre in Colchester, I was quite enthusiastic.
I thought it would be a great asset for Colchester.
Many years later, I now wonder if I will ever see it completed.
Over the years, my wife and I have enjoyed many trips to London and, during the unfortunate and prolonged history of the construction of this elusive arts centre, we have seen great buildings constructed at breakneck speed, including Heron Tower, a new skyscraper in the City, a huge development of luxury apartments at Hyde Park and the impressive Olympic Stadium and complex in Stratford.
All these massive projects were completed in less time than it has taken to build this gold-coloured shed in Colchester.
It is a disgrace and is a glaring example of bad project management and wasted public funds.
