Two police officers and two members of the public have been involved in a crash in Danbury.
The incident on the A414 Maldon Road near Oak Corner today at 6.39am involved a police car and two private cars.
The police vehicle, a Ford S-Max, was using its sirens while following a stolen car when it crashed with a Volkswagen Beetle and a Toyota Aygo.
The driver of the Aygo was taken by air ambulance to a London hospital.
The second member of the public was badly shaken but did not require hospital treatment.
The two police officers are at Broomfield Hospital.
A Fiat Stilo estate, that had been reported stolen from Suffolk, stopped nearby and the two occupants ran off.
A man, 21, of no fixed address, was arrested in Danbury at 8.45am.
He was arrested on suspicion of the theft of a motor vehicle and is being questioned by officers.
The search continues for a second man and anyone with information should contact police on 101.
