ESSEX traffic cops will soon be able to identify dodgy drivers on the spot thanks to new software.
The PentiP database will allow officers to check the background and prior driving record of anyone they stop with a complete list of driving offences anywhere in the country.
At the moment officers have to phone through and even then they don’t get details of expired penalty notices or some fines, such as for not wearing a seatbelt.
The new software will allow officers to see all this information and see it quicker - as soon as they get some mobile devices.
