A MAN has appeared in court in connection with a police chase that end in a crash that left a woman in a coma.

Tyrell O’Donnell, 20, of Upper Braddons Road, Torquay, Devon, is accused of being in a stolen Fiat Stilo.

A court heard the Fiat reached speeds of 100mph while police chased it from the A12 on Wednesday morning.

Its driver lost control on the A414 Maldon Road near Danbury causing a crash with a Toyota Aygo and Volkswagen Beetle.

The Fiat hit the Toyota and sent the Aygo crashing into the pursuing police car.

A woman, 25, from Maldon, who was driving the Toyota suffered head and spine injuries and is in a coma. He condition is described as stable.

Two police officers based in Chelmsford injured in the crash have been discharged from hospital.

A second member of the public was shaken but uninjured.

O’Donnell did not enter a plea to a charge aggravated vehicle taking when he appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday.

He has been remanded in custody until May 21.

Police want to speak to Jason Young, 21, from the Axminster area of Devon, in connection with the incident.
