COLCHESTER’S High Street is among the “most robust” in the country, according to a new national report.
The town’s retail centre was placed alongside Cambridge, Oxford, York and Notting Hill in a white paper by retail consultants Javelin Group.
The report, entitled “Battlefield Britain: survivors and casualties in the fight for the high street” scored 600 towns in the UK on its retail performance, tourist attractions and leisure facilities.
It also looked at the number of empty shops and how many big name brands had invested in the town in order to identify the best and most at risk.
Colchester, categorised as a large venue, was the only Essex town that made the top 30 in the country.
