ROAD safety campaigners have made a fresh appeal for a roundabout at an accident blackspot on the A120 between Colchester and Harwich.

There have been two accidents on the road near Great Bromley in the last ten days.

A driver was taken to Colchester General Hospital with neck injuries after rolling their car into a ditch on Saturday.

Four people were injured after crash on Friday, March 30.

There have been three fatal crashes in the past five years.

Fred Nicholls, district councillor for Great Bromley, said installing a roundabout would be the best solution.

He said: “I have sent e-mails to the highways authority and to our MP Bernard Jenkin.

“I have requested the Highways Agency acknowledge the road has not been made safer and it is time we had a roundabout before somebody else is seriously or fatally injured.

“They won’t consider having a speed limit either.”

The stretch of road has recently undergone a £200,000 safety project to reduce a section of dual carriageway to a single lane and widen the central reservation between Horsley Cross and Little Bentley.

Great Bromley Parish Council will be discussing the issue at the village hall on Parsons Road today at 7.30pm.
