POWER CUTS at a brain injury rehabilitation centre forced staff to give medication by torchlight.
Myland Home, in Mile End Road, was plunged into darkness after the electrical failure at around 1pm on Wednesday.
The blackout, which was the result of a faulty underground cable and affected 50 properties on the road, lasted for almost 24 hours.
Quick thinking support workers reassured the residents, used portable lamps to administer medication and headed out for a pub lunch with power disabled in their kitchen.
Power was back on by 12.15pm on Thursday.
