MALDON’S 106-year-old carnival is back from the brink of collapse after new volunteers came to its rescue.
Last month it appeared the event would be axed after members of the carnival’s committee proposed that the group be dissolved and the carnival fold.
Mike Bentley, Maldon Carnival Committee secretary, described the dwindling committee as “worn down”.
But the event, which has raised more than £200,000 for charity over the years, has now been revitalised after seven new volunteers came forward at a meeting staged to discuss its future.
