I write this letter out of frustration, having read the article headlined: “Academy shows off plans for its future”
(Gazette, April 18).
I am a resident of Acacia Avenue, Colchester, and would be living opposite the proposed build.
I was already aware of the plans and opposed them, having seen them online.
I then attended the consultation on Tuesday, and I must say I was totally shocked at the sheer size of the planned build and proximity to our homes.
Surely, anyone would react to having this. Having a 12m, possibly red brick wall erected just 25m from your front door does not go down well!
Indeed, the size of the build would totally encroach on the homes in Acacia Avenue and affect everyday living here.
This is what we as residents object to, not a new build. We do not want to deny the community a new school.
No one is disputing the education at the school. My son attends the academy, he is happy and progressing well in his education.
Of course, I want him to benefit from a new school and the opportunities it will bring.
However, I feel the residents are not being fairly listened to.
Although I know local councillors attended on Tuesday, it was a shame they were unable to attend for the duration of the consultation, as they may have been able to offer some support and reassurance to the local residents.
