A CARE home is set to open in St Fillan Road, Colchester, with 70 new jobs.
St Fillan’s Care Home, run by Excelcare, will provide care for 71 elderly people and is due to open on May 24.
Paul Smith, councillor for St John’s ward, has called on the firm to recruit locally. He said: “We are hoping it will mean jobs for local people.
“It makes sense not only for Colchester’s job market, but also from a practical point of view.”
The firm is set to hold a recruitment open day at the care home on Friday, April 27, between 10am and 4pm.
Jobs on offer include support staff and nurses, activities co-ordinators and kitchen and laundry staff.
Each of the rooms will have en-suite bathroom, while there is also a hairdressing salon, library, cinema room and an outdoor garden.
The home replaces Greenways Care Home which closed in 2008 after concerns about care. Thirty-one residents were placed in other homes.
