POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attempted street robbery.
A 22-year-old man from South Woodham Ferrers was attacked in Clements Green Lane at around 10pm on Friday.
As he reached the junction of Hither Blakers, he was approached by a man who demanded money.
But when the victim tried to hand over his mobile phone and wallet, the attacker was led away by a group of friends empty handed. Investigating Officer, Pc Louse Beaumont, said: "This is a strange incident and we’re not quite sure the motive behind this interaction.
“The attacker was with a group of his own friends of whom there were three or four.
“He walked out of this group and approached the victim, but was then led back by his friends.
“We know that several cars passed by and one was certainly flagged down by the victim on nearby Hullbridge Road, but failed to stop.
“We need to speak to these drivers so that we can try to identify the attacker and his group of friends.
“The victim believed the man had a knife.
