DETECTIVES have released footage in the hunt for two men who violently attacked a woman as she waited for a Post Office to open in Colchester.
The woman, 48, and from the local area, was waiting to pay in some money at the Post Office in Hunwicke Road on Monday February 20 when she was dragged to the ground at around 8.30am.
The men attempted to steal the cash but fled empty handed when a member of the public heard the victim’s cries for help and came to her aid.
Detectives have released CCTV stills as well as moving footage in the hope a member of the public will recognise the attackers.
They are both described as being of average height and aged between 18 and 25.
Both were wearing dark tracksuits but one was also wearing a beanie hat and hood.
The woman suffered bruising and a small cut but did not need hospital treatment.
Dc Pete Coley, investigating the attempted robbery, said: "These men dragged the victim to the floor and attempted to rob her. The only reason they did not cause her more serious injury or manage to get away with anything is because a member of the public bravely stepped in to help.
"Someone, perhaps a local resident, must have seen these men hanging around on the day of the offence. If anyone knows who these violent men are I would urge them to contact me at Colchester CID by calling 101. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
