THE group which aims to promote the town’s Roman Wall is appealing for sponsors to help fund its new project.
Friends of the Colchester Roman Wall want to raise £13,000 in order to install interactive interpretation boards to promote the wall as a tourist attraction.
Speaking at the launch of the group’s plans last night, Henry Spyvee, chairman of the group, said: “The wall has a future but only if we keep working hard.
“That means trying to get as much sponsorship as possible to help fund the boards.”
He added: “We got the wall for free.
“We didn’t build the wall but it is part of what Colchester is.”
Each board will include a QR code, which allows smartphone users to find out more information by scanning it, and will cost about £1,000.
It is hoped all 13 boards will be up and running by 2014.
