Many thanks to the Gazette for its Comment column on Friday headlined: “Town’s future is looking bright”.
As it correctly stated, a recent report “described the town as among the most robust in the country”.
Yes, the nation is still in a fragile economic situation as the Government has to take drastic measures to deal with the consequences of the financial incompetence of the last Labour Government. And, yes, things are difficult for many households.
I believe the steps the coalition is taking are in the long-term national interest and, thus, in the long-term best interests for Colchester and its residents.
We do have local challenges and issues of concern, but, in contrast to many other parts of the country, we are faring better.
I am far from complacent, but I think we are winning the battle to restore the nation’s fortunes.
