I am writing with reference to your editorial (April 24) regarding potholes and recent articles about damage to cars in Wivenhoe.
I have reported a number of potholes that are so deep they should get a 24-hour repair, in particular Hickory Avenue by the junction with Sycamore Avenue and Blackthorn Avenue by Wisteria Court, Greenstead, and Park Road and Stanley Road by the Co-op, Wivenhoe.
All of these sites should be repaired within 24 hours of reporting them, but at the time of writing, they still await repair.
I do not think this level of service is acceptable and have raised it with the executive director at Essex County Council.
At a time of economic hardship, motorists should not have to face bills for car repairs due to faulty roads.

. . . Gobbledegook remarks from Tracey Chapman, county councillor responsible for transport, about potholes indicate to me certain people in charge are not best placed to improve our services.
Her words of commitment to improve core services and customer focus are more relevant to fruit farms and opticians than the appalling conditions of our roads. Please explain Tracey.
