A MAN was knocked unconscious when he fell from an unfinished footpath.
Dominic Wild tripped as he walked his girlfriend’s dog at Oakapple Close, Colchester, and hit his head on rocks The footpath, running from a new housing estate, off Berechurch Road, into a wooded area stops suddenly with no bollards or sign to warn pedestrians it is incomplete.
Mr Wild, 40, was knocked out cold for about three minutes at about 9pm on Saturday.
His girlfriend’s teenage daughter summoned help and he came round covered in blood before being driven to Colchester General Hospital.
Now the former builder, who is retraining as a care worker, is calling on housing association Colne Housing to fix the problem.
He said: “There are lots of kids who play around here and elderly people.
“One youngster showed me a bump on his head where he had the same fall.
“It’s so dangerous. It needs to be fixed. I have reported it twice, but no one has got back.”
Since the accident, Mr Wild has suffered headaches and lost mobility in his neck.
He has been unable to return to his care worker course this week as he has open wounds.
Helen Scatola, communications officer for Colne Housing, said: “Colne is sorry Mr Wild has been injured in this incident.
“As we have only been alerted to the problem this morning, our inquiries are in the very early stages.
“We are meeting Mr Wild this afternoon to view the site of the accident and he can be assured it will be thoroughly investigated and we will take further action if required.”
