I agree with the article by Chris Wilkin in the Gazette (April 19) regarding the recycling in Tendring.
The prize for doing most of Violia’s work sorting out the waste is a small kitchen caddy, which I don’t have room for.
Also what I get for doing these extra tasks is to have stuff left behind after the environmental recycling technicians have taken only what they want.
So what happens to this stuff?
The answer to my question is for everybody who has transport to add to pollution, taking it to the council dumps.
I do agree recycling should be taken seriously, but surely providing a centre for sorting/grading/ distributing all material is the answer.
The prize for Tendring Council is a few hundred thousand pounds which no doubt will be spent very wisely, like locking up half the area’s toilets or maintenance of the fountain which nobody really wanted.
In 1972/4, my rent, including rates, was £5 a week, I now pay a vast sum of money as community tax for services I don’t now use.
The rubbish collection is one of the few I need and see no reason why it should be cut back.
I feel sorry for the bin-men because they will be hit in the pocket when it comes to Christmas time and they have been alienated by this new system!
