FIREFIGHTERS helped save a home and an elderly resident following a fire in Gosbecks Road, Colchester.
Three crews were called just after 8am this morning to the house and arrived to find smoke billowing from the upstairs windows.
After being alerted by smoke alarms, supplied by Colchester Council’s Helpline, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus were able to put out the flames and clear the property of smoke after about an hour.
The 80-year-old inside, who has been made homeless, will be cared for by the Helpline service and social services.
A man in his 40s, who also lives in the property, is now trying to clean up some of the damage.
