THOUSANDS of people enjoyed a day of activities and sailing at Brightlingsea regatta.
As well as racing on the water, families enjoyed a range of activities including face painting, boat rides and meeting some of Brightlingsea Creek's native inhabitants such as star fish, shrimp and dover sole.
The town's annual boat show held along Copperas Road also drew sailing fans to the event.
Today proved a washout with racing called off due to rough weather.
But the weather failed to dampen the atmosphere and town councillor Jayne Chapman said how lucky it was to get one day of good weather.
She said: "Saturday was a huge success, we were really pleased. The regatta races were fantastic and so much fun - some people were rowing around in circles.
"There was a good turn-out and although it's difficult to judge how many we think about 4,000 people at least came along."
