IN TODAY'S GAZETTE: A MAN who mutilated his dog with ameat cleaver and shot it 17 times with an air rifle has been jailed for six months.
Andrew Summerfield, 44, of Defoe Crescent, Colchester, dumped Barney on the A12 after the attack - the dog had to be put down.
* Essex Chief Constable Jim Barker-McCardle has given a moving tribute to hero police officer Ian Dibell.
PC Dibell, who was shot dead while trying to intervene in a neighbour dispute, was described as personable and charming.
The widow of Sgt Brian Bishop who was shot dead in Frinton in 1984 also expressed her support and sympathy to PC Dibell's family.
