A MOVIE charting the fortunes of a fictional Britpop band from Colchester is being filmed later this year – with Blur guitarist Graham Coxon writing the soundtrack.
The Wanderers is set in the town in 1996, with scenes to be shot in Colchester and London, although a filming schedule has yet to be announced.
The plot bears an uncanny resemblance to Blur’s rise to fame. Coxon and Damon Albarn met at Stanway Secondary School and drummer Dave Rowntree was a pupil at the Gilberd School.
The plot for what is being described as “a non-conventional teen movie”, focuses on a 16-year-old boy who joins a Colchester band at the height of Brit-pop mania.
British actor Bill Milner, 17, who starred in the movie, Son of Rambow, has been cast in the lead role of the film.
