TRIBUTES to murdered cop PC Ian Dibell continue to pour in.
The hero officer was killed while protecting the public in Clacton on Monday.
He was shot dead by Peter Reeve, who had already shot another man and was then found dead in a Writtle churchyard.
It is believed Reeve took his own life.
Anthony Jackson, chairman of the Essex Police Authority, said: “The members and staff at Essex Police Authority wish to pay tribute to the selfless actions of PC Ian Dibell in going to assist members of the public which resulted in paying for his bravery with his life.
“He knew the risk in tackling a gunman who had already shot at others but did not shrink from the task.
“PC Dibell was an extraordinary man and an exceptional police officer.
“Very experienced and respected by his colleagues he thought nothing of going to the rescue of fellow citizens who were in mortal danger.
“He was off duty at the time.
“He is the finest example of the deep sense of loyalty and bravery in our officers, even when not on duty, to serve and protect the public.
“We furthermore recognise that this spirit is reflected in the actions of Essex Police officers across the county every day.
“We must be endlessly grateful for this.
“Our deepest heartfelt sympathies have been extended to his family at this more difficult of times.
“PC Dibell you have become a beacon for us all. We shall not forget you.”
