A STUDENT nurse left unconscious after an assault during a night out has spoken about how he has been left feeling scared.
New Town resident Qondiso Mpofu, 32, was punched in the jaw on St Botolph’s Street, Colchester, at 4am on Saturday.
The attack, close to the Brittania car park, left Qondiso with concussion, cuts, and bruising to his ribs and jaw.
“When watching a boxing match and someone gets knocked-out I always wondered what that feels like, but now I know. I felt confused and it is scary," he said.
Qondiso, who is studying at Anglia Ruskin University in Chelmsford, was on his way to get cash from his car to pay for a taxi home.
Qondiso, who also works part-time as a support worker, said: “I just can’t explain it, I’ve never had any problems before when I was in Colchester. I normally walk home and have never felt unsafe before at all.
“It has been a wake up call for me.
“I don’t know if they did it just for fun.
“If someone can just jump on you like that and think they can get away with it - it has made me feel insecure.
“I have lost faith, and it has put me off going into town. It knocks your confidence.”
Anyone with information about the assault should contact investigating officers at Colchester police station on 101.
