A HEAD teacher says she is proud after her school was given a ‘good’ report by education watchdog Ofsted.

Lorraine Mitchell, head at Brinkley Grove Primary School, said the mark is testament to the hard work of staff and children.

“Brinkley Grove has a very strong team of staff, children, parents and governors who endeavour to do everything possible to ensure that all pupils succeed,” said Mrs Mitchell.

“Ofsted has realised that our school is on a journey towards excellence and that we are completed committed to raising aspirations and achievements for our children.

“I am extremely proud of everyone at Brinkley Grove.”

Among the key findings from the inspection, which took place at the Rawlings Crescent school between July 3 and July 5, was that pupils’ overall achievement is good, with reading levels being above average.

Disabled pupils or those with special educational needs also make good progress as a result of good support from teaching assistants.

Inspectors also said the quality of teaching in art is a strength of the school.

But inspectors also said the school was not yet outstanding because teachers occasionally do not fully challenge all pupils is maths and writing.

The report added pupils’ progress in writing and maths is sometimes slower than in reading.
