A DRIVER is fighting for her life in hospital after a horror smash in the A12 near Colchester yesterday afternoon.
The woman, who is in her 60s and from south-east London, suffered what were described as potentially life-threatening injuries in the crash which happened at Marks Tey.
More details have emerged about the accident which happened at 3.40pm.
A Citroen 2CV was involved in a collision with a police Land Rover which was dealing with another incident at the scene.
Two dalmation dogs were in the Citroen.
One was killed in the crash.
The other was taken to a vets and is expected to make a full recovery.
The woman was airlifted to the Royal London Hospital with serious head injuries.
Police said the police Land Rover parked at the side of the road after going to help the driver of a Renault Clio whose glass roof had been damaged by flying debris.
A spokesman said: “The Land Rover was almost completely on the grass verge when it was struck from behind by the Citroen 2CV.”
The driver of the Clio was inside the police Land Rover but she was uninjured in the crash.
A police officer was taken to Colchester General Hospital with minor injuries but later released.
Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.
