A bid to help revamp Colchester's St Botolph's Quarter by becoming a Portas Pilot has been unsuccessful.
A group of 15 organisations applied for £50,000 for a project which would be launched by encouraging people to come forward with their memories of St Botolph's.
Meanwhile Braintree will receive £100,000 for improvements to its High Street.
