AN upgrade of a notoriously faulty Colchester town centre lift has been completed. The Vineyard Street car park lift, which helps shoppers reach Lion Yard shopping centre and the main town centre shopping areas, has a reputation for rarely working properly. Following a £50,000 grant from Essex County Council, it has undergone a major overhaul and facelift and was officially unveiled on Friday. The car park has remained open during the work, which started last month. Lyn Barton, councillor responsible for renaissance at Colchester Council, said: “The work will really help with access to the town centre, particularly for those with mobility issues.”
