THE countdown has begun to the Colchester Oyster Festival.
The start of the oyster season will be marked with the annual event at Colchester’s Castle Park, on September 1.
Each year on that date native Colchester oysters go on sale, and this year’s festival is on the same day.
All proceeds will go to St Helena Hospice .
The festival will be held in Upper Castle Park from 10.30am to 5.30pm and will feature a pie-eating competition, sea shanties and live music.
