A COUPLE celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by donating £775 to the hospital that saved their son’s life.
Fred and Valerie Davidson, of Worcester Road, Colchester, asked friends and family to make donations to Colchester General Hospital’s critical care department, instead of buying them presents.
Their son, Michael, 47, spent ten days in critical care last year after being diagnosed with epiglottitis and a further four days in hospital.Michael, who made a full recovery, said: “I’m very grateful to the staff of the unit for their care and expertise.
“I hope these donations will help further their work and save lives.”
He and his partner, Julie Stevens, 41, who work for insurance brokers in Witham, visited the department to present the donations.
They have requested the money goes towards the cost of hiring a specialist type of bed they credit with saving Michael’s life.
