A SHOP has finally opened after two months of delays.
The opening of the Cake Story, in Priory Walk, Colchester, was scheduled for June 1, but postponed by the collapse of the roof at the nearby Holland and Barrett shop.
Priory Walk was closed for three weeks while repairs were carried out.
The Cake Story owner Taher Noor said he was thrilled to open his cake and coffee shop for the first time on Friday.
He said: “It’s unreal. It’s been a long time coming. “We are hoping all our patience with the long delays has paid off.”
Mr Noor, 24, has continued to pay the seven staff he took on earlier this year through the whole two months the shop remained closed.
He said the extra time had meant his staff had extra time for training.
He added: “After the incident happened, they said it would be a matter of weeks before it was sorted, but I thought it would take a good few months.
“We had to put off our deliveries and because we cancelled, we had to wait a few months before they could give us a new slot.
“After the article went in the Gazette, everything started to move. The builders came down and moved the barriers across, so people could get down Priory Walk.
“We just can’t wait to see what the public thinks of us.”
