Conrad Readman, 49, of St Helena Road, who was a chartered accountant, collapsed after having a suspected heart attack.
* A heroic student swam to rescue a young kayaker who had floated out to sea.
Ryan Lovett, 17, who goes to Colchester Sixth Form College, dived into the sea at Dovercourt and swam out to the girl.

Police found a man with wounds to his arm and back and he was taken to Colchester General Hospital for treatment.
