COLCHESTER now has the highest Covid rate in Essex, the latest figures reveal.
According to the figures, in the week to June 11 Colchester's average infection rate was 43.1 cases per 100,000 people.
This is up nearly four times compared with a week early on June 4, when the rate was 11.3 cases per 100,000 people.
In the week to June 11 there were 84 cases of coronavirus confirmed in the borough, compared with 22 in the previous week.
The borough's average infection rate is now once again the highest in Essex and the area had the highest number of weekly cases.
It is followed closely in second place by Southend, where the rate is 40.4 cases per 100,000 people.
Tendring is has the lowest average infection rate, of 15 cases per 100,000 people.
All parts of Essex continue to have average infection rates below the England average of 69.9 cases per 100,000 people.

- Rochford - 18.3 (16 cases) - 13.7 (12 cases)
- Castle Point - 17.7 (16 cases) - 15.5 (14 cases)
- Tendring - 15.0 (22 cases) - 8.2 (12 cases)
The Government's hotspots map also reveals the number of cases in each part of Colchester.

Nine areas of the town were included on the map in the week to June 12.
The rest of the borough recorded less than three cases, meaning the virus is classed as "suppressed" in these parts of the town.
