I was reading your articles about the empty Debenhams store and calls for a new bus station in Colchester (Gazette, January 20, “’It’s high time we had a new bus station’”).
Concerning Debenhams, it’s a no-brainer - turn the ground floor into an indoor market with purpose-built permanent stalls; turn the first floor into individual food outlets, such as Thai, Chinese, Italian, Indian and so with their own seating areas.
The third floor could be turned into flats.
And as for a new bus station, they would not have to move it - just look at how St Hellier, in Jersey, has done its - it is virtually the same layout as ours, we just have to relocate the bingo hall.
Maybe the old Odeon which could made into an entertainment centre which Colchester badly needs.
