THE ideas for the usage of the old Debenhams store have yet again thrown up the old chestnut of an indoor market.
What is the obsession with having an indoor market in Colchester.
Is it because Chelmsford has one?
Many people keep saying “the town centre is dead”, “RIP town centre”, “another nail in the coffin” etc, etc.
Do people really think that all it takes to bring people back to the town centre is an indoor market?
Facts have to be faced that the town centre is going to be more leisure and residential-based than retail-based in the future.
The rose-tinted glasses and wistfulness for the days of the 1970s have to go and people have to look at the hard and brutal facts of 2022 UK.
