I’M writing in response to Jim Clayton’s concerns over the Crouch Street cycle lane plans (Gazette, May 2, “‘I fear for the future of this precious area’”).
Is Mr Clayton aware that the plans have been in the public domain for some time and they have gone through an extensive consultation process?
This included many steering groups meetings with stakeholders.
The money has come from central government and is aimed at improving sustainable travel.
The plan includes a greatly widened payment on the northside of Crouch Street and some public realm works.
If Colchester is to move forward with tackling air quality, improving public health and providing the right conditions for walking and cycling then Mr Clayton surely must be on-side?
I appreciate that the provision of high-quality cycling infrastructure is something new.
However, we all need to embrace change.
