IN these times of fuel crisis, I thought it would be a sensible idea to go to town on my local bus, S2 from Stanway.

I waited 25 minutes wondering were the two missing scheduled bus had gone, under a filthy bus shelter which has never been cleaned and a moss cover (meant to be clear) roof, or is it a roof garden?

Paid my fare and off we went until we reached the end of Lexden Road opposite old hospital, where the bus stopped, the engine turned off and the driver started to read the newspaper.

We sat there for a little while so I walked off and reached Head Street before the bus.

Do you think I could get a refund? I’m concerned about the eco shelter garden in the hot spell? Did the driver have a pen for the crossword?
