A 23-year-old entrepreneur and fashion blogger has won the People's Choice title at the annual Sikh Awards.

Pardeep Singh Bahra, the face of Samsung's Alpha Smart phone campaign and founder of Singh Street Style online fashion site, was honoured at the ceremony in Westminster, central London.

He was picked in an online poll as someone who has had a positive impact on people's lives. He is the first turbaned man to be the face of a global campaign for an international organisation.

With Britain marking the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, speakers included representatives from the Army, Royal Navy and the Tower of London. More than 750 guests attended the ceremony, which also featured an exhibition about Sikhs in the Great War.

Billionaire Malvinder Singh, the executive chairman of international company Fortis Healthcare, won the Businessman award, while the Sport title went to Navtej Singh, the world's first Sikh bodybuilder.

The awards, now in their fifth year, celebrate the "achievements of the successful, hard-working and ambitious Sikh community" from across the globe, their founder, Navdeep Singh Bansal, said.

He said: "The Sikh community continue to contribute immensely to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of societies globally, as well as making a difference to people's lives through philanthropy."
