Tom Eastman penned a new deal with Colchester United - and then set his sights on holding down a regular place in Joe Dunne’s starting line-up.
The U’s centre-back has extended his contract at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, which will take him up the summer of 2015.
Buoyed by his new terms, Eastman is bracing himself for a battle to pin down a regular spot in Joe Dunne’s side.
The 21-year-old believes his manager is flush for options throughout the squad - but is desperate to play his part in steering Colchester up the League One table.
Eastman said: “There’s real competition for places.
“I think we could field two decent teams, with the strength in depth we’ve got.
“The main focus now has to be climbing the table and getting away from the relegation zone."
