Colchester United midfielder David Wright was taken to hospital after suffering concussion during the U's 3-1 defeat at Notts County.

The former Ipswich Town midfielder was knocked out following a collision with Magpies' Tyrell Waite in the latter stages of the U's game at Meadow Lane.

Wright needed several minutes of treatment by numerous medical staff, before eventually being taken to a nearby Nottingham hospital.

But he was expected to travel back to Colchester with the rest of his team-mates, on Saturday night.

U's boss Joe Dunne said: “David was knocked out and we were worried about his neck as well.

“All of the precautions were taken to make sure that he was taken from the ground in a safe manner and credit to everybody.

“He was taken straight to the hospital and we know he’s OK.

“The problem was that it was a complete blackout and memory loss but precautions were in place to deal with that."
