Joe Dunne believes Colchester United are entering the most important period in their recent history.

The U’s season-long relegation battle reaches a crescendo in the coming days, starting with tonight’s vital home clash with MK Dons.

They then host Shrewsbury Town this weekend, before making the long trip up to Carlisle United for their final game of the season.

Colchester lie five points above the drop zone with three games remaining, as they attempt to secure a sixth successive season in League One.

And they know any slip up against the Dons could allow the likes of fellow strugglers Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic to take full advantage.

U’s boss Dunne said: “This is the biggest two weeks for the club in years.

“I’m the manager and I’ll make sure we’re ready for it."
