Mark Kinsella admits Colchester United’s future prosperity rests on them retaining their League One status.
The U’s can cement their third tier status for another season by beating Shrewsbury Town tomorrow.
Colchester have placed a great deal of emphasis on their academy over recent times, with chairman Robbie Cowling investing in their youth programme.
And U's assistant manager Kinsella, who enjoyed an illustrious playing career having progressed through the junior ranks, believes they must stay up for their talented youngsters to flourish.
He said: “It’s very important that we stay in League One.
“If we survive this season, then we’ll be better for it next year.
“League One is vital to how we want to be as a club and bring the kids through."
