Colchester United's under-21s lost 3-0 to Ipswich Town in their penultimate Professional Development League Two game of the season.
The U's were beaten at the Weston Homes Community Stadium by their East Anglian neighbours, as goals from Mark Timlin, Jack Marriott and Michael Chopra gave Town victory.
Experienced defender Matt Heath featured but U's under-21 boss Richard Hall generally fielded a young side and handed a trial to former Coventry City youngster Ricky Fletcher.
