Kem Izzet is desperate to end a frustrating season on a high and steer Colchester United to League One safety.
The long-serving skipper is chomping at the bit to play in the U’s make-or-break final-day game at Carlisle United.
Izzet, 32, has not featured for Colchester since suffering an ankle injury in their 1-0 defeat at Doncaster Rovers, in January.
But the tenacious midfielder is fully fit and is desperate to help the club he has served for more than 12 years stay in the third tier.
Izzet said: “I want to be playing and I feel that I have something to offer the team in this situation.
“I feel sharp and I wouldn’t let anyone down if I was selected.
“I want to play but it’s up to the manager and I back him 100 per cent."
