CLACTON’S Bethany and Georgia Ibbotson were surprise winners at the country’s biggest beach tournament.

They won two age categories at the South West Schools Beach Volleyball Championships and the Sandbanks Beach Volleyball Festival, incorporating the British Junior Championships.

The twins were victorious in division two of the under-16s category.

Along the way, in the semi-finals, they beat Tendring Volleyball Club team-mates Jessica Lane and Francesca Smith-Daye, 15-5 and 15-10.

They followed it up the next day by winning the under-18s event, beating another pair of twins – Bethany and Hannah Sharkey – 15-10 and 15-13.

The quartet are all in the same Central team for this year’s UK School Games.

The latter success, especially, was a major achievement, given that it was one of their first beach tournaments.
