Emmanuel Ogunleye took the sprints by storm as Colchester and Tendring Athletic Club took part in their latest Eastern Young Athletes League meet.

Competing in the under-15 boys, Ogunleye’s photo-finishes were the highlights of the track meeting at the University of East Anglia Sportspark, in Norwich.

Ogunleye won the 100 metres in 11.5s, ranking him in the UK top-20 for his age group.

And he also finished a close second in the 200m in 23.6s, claiming personal bests (PBs) in both races.

Elsewhere in the under-15 category, Thomas Hewes won the high jump with a PB of 1.71m and was third in the B string discus (15.52 metres).

Daniel Cole was second in the javelin (36.01m), as was Harrisson Beardsell in the B string javelin (26.03m).

William Page got a PB of 4m 55s to win the B string 1,500m and was fourth in the 100m (14.1s).

In the under-13 boys category, league debutant Frankie Beedon was third in the B string javelin (16.29m).

Oliver Eves won the B string 100m (14.0s) and was second in the 800m (2m 34s).

Jacob Wilson scored maximum points for CAT’s after winning the 75m hurdles (12.6s, PB), the high jump (1.30m) and the long jump (4.65m).

His effort in the 75m hurdles secured him 13th place in the UK rankings.

Jamie Cook represented the under-17 men’s team in his debut EYAL league meeting, finishing fourth in all of his events.

He ran 100m in 12.0s and claimed a PB in the 200m (24.5s), along with registering 5.41m in the long jump (5.41m).

In the under-13 girls, Joy Ogunleye was unbeatable for the CAT’s in the A string 100m (13.1s) and 200m (27.6s).

She is now ranked fourth in the UK for 100m and sixth in the UK for 200m.

Lauren Woodiwiss ran PB times in the B string 100m (14.0s) and 200m (29.3s), while league debutante Eniola Coker won the non-scoring 100m (14.7s) and was second in the 200m (30.4s).

Ellie-Jade Clark was third in the 70m hurdles (13.9s, PB) and shot putt (6.08m).

Ima Coker made her EYAL debut, finishing fourth in the 200m (29.6s) and sixth in the high jump (1.30m).

Lydia Callan got PBs in the 300m (30.1s) and B string 800m (2m 36s) and was also sixth in the long jump (3.59m).

Georgina Sturgeon knocked another second off her PB in the 800m (2m 28s) while in the under-17 women’s team, Ami Fosker was second with a PB in the 200m (42.9s).

Phillipa Baxter finished second in the B string 800m (2m 41s) and threw the javelin 6.27m to clinch fourth in the B string.

CAT’s under-13 girls enjoyed a great run in the 4x100m relay, finishing third in 59.5s.

CAT’s teenage middle distance runners were in majestic form at the South of England Championships, in Hendon.

Jordan Rowe, 16, showed his class when he cruised to a comfortable win in the under-17 men’s 3,000 metres, in a time of eight minutes 56 seconds.

He is now ranked first in the Eastern Counties.

Wivenhoe’s Joe Patterson was sixth in his under-15 3,000m race in a personal best time of 9m 43.6s.

As a result, the 14-year-old is now ranked third in the Eastern Counties standings and 12th overall in the UK.
