Andy Bond came off the bench to score a late winner for Colchester United and secure them all three points at newly-promoted Gillingham, on the opening day of the season.
Bond struck in the 88th minute when he fired home from fellow substitute Drey Wright's pass, to give the U's all three points at Priestfield.
It looked like the game was heading for a draw, with both sides cancelling one another out.
Danny Kedwell hit the woodwork for Gillingham and Freddie Sears and Jabo Ibehre went close for the U's in the first half.
Colchester keeper Sam Walker saved from Charlie Lee but Alex Gilbey twice went close for Colchester in the closing stages and Marcus Bean also had an effort saved, before Bond scored his last-gasp winner.
