COLCHESTER United crashed out of the Capital One Cup after being sent packing by Peterborough.

Posh ran out 5-1 winners in tonight's first-round tie at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Jabo Ibehre had given the U’s hope after putting them on level terms just after half-time.

But Peterborough – relegated from the Championship last season – proved far too strong in a one-sided second half.

Gabriel Zakuani had given them the lead just before the break but it was in the second period that the visitors showed their class.

Tyrone Barnett’s header put them back in front, before Tommy Rowe hammered an unstoppable effort past U’s goalkeeper Sam Walker.

Lee Tomlin then took centre stage, curling an exquisite effort into the top right-hand corner before drilling home after making space for himself on the edge of the box.
